As you may know I am a Military Wife, but aside from participating in events for our Military, I have volunteered with the USO for years, as well as with many other organizations that ship packages to our Troops that are deployed.
Amongst the many events that the USO hosts for Military Families, the USO is also home away from home to many of our Military. It's a place where they can go and relax, watch t.v, take showers, use the internet, and have warm meals that they don't otherwise get on a ship.
I did a Thank You post a long time ago, just to give you an idea of what the USO has done for us:
http://www.adventuresofamilitaryfamilyof8.com/2009/12/thankful-thursday-uso.html
Every year the USO has candy in the lobby for our Soldiers & Sailors and hands them out goodie bags. They also host Holiday parties for kids of the Military Families. (every USO hosts different things in their cities). This year, the USO asked me if I could please reach out to our public and ask for donations, the funds and usual donors are short this year. There will be a Halloween Carnival for which the candy is needed.
We are not asking for much, 1 bag of sealed candy from those that can help, if you are in San Diego, I can pick up next week. All the candy needs to be at USO before Oct. 25th. Even if you could donate $5 in a gift card, I would be more than happy to do the shops to turn it all in. I will be volunteering as I do every year. I will be more than happy to share the contact information with the Director if anyone wants to verify this ;)
I am sorry for asking, I know that times are tough, and I do understand if you can't help ;)
Thank you all for listening,
Lily

San Diego heatwave......
2 days ago it was cloudy and cool in San Diego, Ca. It was a beautiful night, what looked to be the start of a wonderful Fall season for us. The next day it decided to be hot, now that's typical weather in San Diego, and then it hit us. A heatwave in Fall. It's 100 degrees and feels horrible!
To top it off our kids are on Fall break from School. No a/c in the house. It's a recipe for disaster right? lol Yesterday we took the kids to the beach for an hour, then came home at 6pm and they went in the pool until 830pm. The weather was beautiful!
Today it has been horribly hot since 8am :/
I wasn't letting the kids go in the pool because the pool man was supposed to be here, but I just looked at the outside thermometer and it's
So forget the pool man, I'm letting the kids go in the pool.
WAIT!!!!
The pool man got here as soon as the kids were going outside :/ So now I am listening to whinny hot kids!!!
Back to the front yard where I am going to chase them with a water hose LOL

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole
On Sat Sept 18, 2010 My Family attended the Premier Pre-Screening for the movie Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole which is based on the books by Kathryn Lasky and is the animation debut of Zack Snyder. In the movie Soren is a young owl who is in love with the adventures his Father tells him and his siblings about The Guardians of Ga'Hoole, a mythical band of warrior owls and how they won the battle against the Pure Ones and saved all of the owlkind. Now don't worry, I won't give the movie away, so feel free to read the rest of the post without fear ;)
I have to first tell you, after seeing the previews for this movie it looked so exciting, then as the movie got closer to release date, I was skeptical about seeing a movie solely about owls; boy was I wrong!!!
The movie was so incredibly done, the story line was great, the kids loved the story in itself, and can I tell you about the graphics!?!?
Of ALL the animated movies I have seen to date, I completely without a second thought, name this movie the BEST EVER when it comes to the graphics!! I purposely looked for faults and parts where the characters would look too computerized. I found NONE!! Look at the way the Father is looking at his kids...
Do you see what I am talking about when I tell you that it is a complete masterpiece?
My Husband and I LOVED the movie!!
So go ahead and have a wonderful time with your Family, the movie will be released to the Public on September 24, 2010 Can you just picture what I am talking about, but in 3D IMAX?!
Check out the website so you can see what I'm talking about, then on Friday GO!!!
oh yeah, by the way, the kid's loved the movie as well ;)
My Family was neither compensated nor bribed for this review, we were just allowed to attend the premier ;)

What is your Passion?
I ask you this, because of two things:
1) I believe that many people take life for granted and don't enjoy the passion in their life as much as they should, I should know, i was like that ;)
2) I came across a contest that asks for a picture of what your passion is, so I am curious to know what yours is?
I thought long and hard what my passion is, and I couldn't come up with one word, I had too many passions and loves to choose from, then my baby, my youngest of 6, the one whom Doctors said would not make it; sat on the couch, gave me a kiss, and said
"Mommy, you're beautiful and I love you"
There it is!!! That is my passion!!
My Family, my children, the last 4 kids were born at 22 weeks, 24 weeks, 25 weeks and 29 1/2 weeks, they were and are miracles in themselves. The four who were too sickly and premature to make it through their first month in the hospital, are now the same four who drive me up the walls at times, and yet, I am SO thankful that they are all here, that even at my most stressful mommy moments, I look at them and smile.
That is my passion, it's what I live for, what I look too at my lowest points to help me go on. I see them, I see smiles and I remember how much they weren't supposed to have been here, how much I cried and begged the Lord to let me keep them. That I would cherish them everyday no matter what I went through.

These are my treasures, my heart, my future,
my passion...
As I mentioned above, I have entered a contest, the theme is "Passion" and the winner will get a 16X20 rolled canvas and $100. I have never been able to post the picture of one kids and not the rest, so this was a picture I made and we have in our living room, because it shows all of us, and what's important to us.

The Alpha and Omega 3D Movie Premier...
Today My Family attended The Alpha and Omega Movie Premier in 3D IMAX, and WE LOVED IT!! The graphics were amazing! The storyline was beautiful! The action scenes were so funny! Simply put, everything about the movie was wonderful!
Although some scenes reminded me of other movies I have seen, Disney's The Lion King was one of them, it was just an all around great and fun-filled time.
Either way, I guarantee that you will love this movie!
All of my children sat through the entire movie, the Forrest scenes were just beautiful! My 5 year old would scream, gasp, and reach out for flying objects, it was such a wonderful experience!!!
Without a doubt it's a must see in my book. During the credits, there is a
In Memory of
Dennis Hopper
note, and it brought tears to my eyes, he was such a wonderful actor and talented artist, he is missed ;)Dennis Hopper
Alpha and Omega 3D IMAX opens publicly on September 17, 2010.

peeking out from the shadows....
As you may have noticed, I have been absent since last week...
We cleaned the house carpets last weekend and cleaned the house as well.Well bleach happens to be one of my migraine triggers, but I was in such a cleaning mode and happy to see the results that I wasn't thinking.
The cleaning started on Sunday and went through Monday night, by Monday morning I had a migraine, but I kept on trucking ;)
I washed the carpets several times, and cleaned walls and such. Monday night I was couch ridden with my head throbbing. Tuesday it was a full blown migraine attack with all the fixings.
So I stayed away from the computer for those days. Migraine went through Wednesday night with me in bed in a dark room all day, just hurting terribly.
On Wednesday night I started having some terrible stomach pains as well.
1 year ago I had my gall bladder taken out from the same pains, and throughout this entire year without the gall bladder, I have continued to have the pains on and off, well Weds it just was over the top and just like on the day of the emergence surgery. I had that stomach pain and residual migraine on Thurs, and thankfully my migraine is now 80%gone. My stomach pains however are here, bad, and annoying.
I am very sorry to all of my friends that participated in "Tag, you're it!"
I could not even open my eyes from the migraine long enough to write a post. I had no choice but to let it run through this week since I have no one else that hosts "Tag" with me :(
I promise that I will still do the giveaways for the 3 people for last week.
Last year when we moved, my glasses were lost, and I have gone through this year without my glasses, I have noticed that my sight has gotten severely worst, I see mostly everything blurry all the time now, I can type and read because I go with recognition. Yesterday I FINALLY had my eye exam and my Husband bought me a new pair of glasses, I get to pick them up tomorrow. It has taken me so long to get the glasses because as you know, having one income for such a large Family means that a lot of the time Husb and I go without what we need to make sure the kids and house have what they need. I could not let my eyesight be another factor for my migraines, so i decided to at least take care of that part for now. Let me tell you it was so hard to let my husband spend the money on me for my glasses!
I have really missed all of you, through blogging, twitter, facebook, and texting!!!!
Since I get to pick up my glasses tomorrow, I will once again be able to read without headaches, so I know I will be around more often ;)
Let me see, what else have you missed?
I have a facebook acct for my blog now ;) it's very lonely :(
Well here are the places you can find me at other than my blog, a lot of times I am on twitter throughout the day because it goes to my phone, so it's a lot more accessible than my blog.
Twitter: @Militaryfamof8
Facebook: Blog facebook and Personal facebook
OOHHHH, before I forget, one more thing that has happened this week...
Someone nominated me for "Babble's Favorite Twitter Moms",
I had not asked anyone for votes because I didn't know I was even on there until last night, but since the person has not come forward to tell me who they are, I am just going to say thank you on here and on twitter ;) Thank you very much to the person who nominated me, and for the extremely touching bio that you gave me, it brought tears to my eyes to see that I am thought of that way, and to have read such a beautiful bio about me. Thank you so much to you, and to everyone that has voted for me ;) i never would have thought that anyone would have chosen me for that title ;) or thought of me in such a great way ;D
Want to check it out? The link is HERE and I was on page 2 last time I saw it. You can search by popularity on page 2, or alphabetically. I am nominated under the name: @Militaryfamof8 which is my twitter name ;) Thank you again ;)
SO here was my recap for the week, why my absence was needed, hoping that I can once again be my old self and blog like I used too. Do you remember what that was like? I miss it, I miss all of you ;)
Hugs!!!!!!
Please stop by and play "Tag, you're it!" if you are looking for new followers to ANY of your sites ;)
